The Perfect Pair: Duca del Cosma Golf Shoes for Every Golfer

GolfPunk has been seeking an opportunity to assess a Duca Del Cosma golf shoe for quite some time. Although the brand may not be widely recognized, it has surprisingly been in existence for a considerable period. Established in 2004 by Italian designer Baldovino Mattiazzo and his German wife Antje Elle, both avid golfers, Duca del Cosma aims to combine award-winning Italian design with the production of high-quality, fashionable shoes that not only exude style but also provide exceptional comfort and performance. Among the brand's extensive range, the Duca Del Cosma Belair caught our attention as the ideal candidate for review.

A few days prior to a society gathering at the esteemed Royal Ashdown Golf Club in East Sussex, England, I received the shoes. Of course, the event adhered to social distancing guidelines, with participants divided into groups of six. For those unfamiliar with the venue, Royal Ashdown boasts two courses: the West and the Old. The Old Course, in particular, presents a challenging terrain with numerous undulations that truly put one's cardiovascular system to the test.

Looks

The Duca Del Cosma Belair exudes a distinct charm and sophistication that sets it apart from the rest. Its elegant and stylish appearance drew the attention of my fellow players, earning a few admiring glances. The Belair White/Blue/Cognac shoe offers a unique feature of replacing the standard white laces with a more striking blue pair. Although I had the option, I opted to keep the white laces as I did not want to go through the hassle of relacing the shoes.

Technical stuff

Crafted using perforated Nappa leather and equipped with a waterproof internal bootie membrane, this shoe effectively keeps water out while allowing moisture to escape. The Arneflex® memory foam covered insole, which is both comfortable and breathable, is paired with a cow leather Airplay VI outsole. The bottom of the shoe features 5 mm cone-shaped nubs that run across the entire surface, providing optimal stability and grip during swings. The shoe's fit is regular/wide and it comes with wax laces, adding a touch of luxury to its appearance and feel.

Feel

It is worth noting that I face difficulties with all kinds of shoes due to my wide foot with a high instep and sensitive feet. Typically, I cannot complete two rounds of golf on firm ground in a day without experiencing some discomfort. Upon trying on the Duca Del Cosma Belair, I initially felt some tightness in width, but after walking around for a bit, they became quite comfortable. While I would prefer them to be slightly wider, I must admit that I do have a penchant for shoes that accommodate my hobbit-like feet.

Performance

I made a courageous choice to tackle 36 holes of golf wearing a fresh pair of shoes, and to my delight, it wasn't until the thirty-fourth hole that I encountered a slight struggle. Despite the atypical September heat, my feet remained pleasantly cool, which was an added advantage.

The terrain was firm and arid, preventing me from testing the shoes' traction in wet conditions. Nevertheless, their performance on dry ground was commendable, providing ample support throughout my swing, even when faced with shots from uneven lies.
